The Brief

Upgrade of existing aged bathroom with the inclusion of:

  • Two basins and plenty of storage
  • Wet floor shower area for ease of access
  • Functional shower space with ease of maintenance for future years
  • Solution for support and security whilst showering in future years
  • More powerful shower than existing
  • Good heat source with back-up solutions

The Solution

The en-suite for this client was a good size and space was certainly not an issue.

  • Two basins and plenty of storage: Two Dansani Birka 710mm basin with two door vanity units below, along with three additional storage units. These were installed as a full collection to look as though they were ‘fitted’ furniture, though were installed as wall mounted in order that the floor below can be easily cleaned.

  • Wet floor shower area: We installed a wet floor shower area by using WEDI FUNDO shower ‘tray’ below the tiled floor. (This is fully waterproof so even on a first floor room, it is completely safe) We discussed with our client the pros and cons of a wet floor and after discussions, decided that a wet floor would be most practical for ease of access in future years.

  • Functional shower space with ease of maintenance: An enclosure would also be of benefit, in order that the water is contained within the showering space and spray will not come out across the rest of the floor area. This meant that the shower area can be easily maintained over the years with no worry of slipping out with the shower space.

  • Solution for support and security whilst showering: A KEUCO Plan Care shower rail system was installed into the shower space in order that the client would have the security and piece of mind should they slip. Plan Care is also a stylish product that doesn’t look as though it has come from a clinic or hospital so blends very well into a modern and sleek bathroom.

  • More powerful shower: The client was not keen to have to upgrade their entire hot water system in their property so in order to ensure that the shower in this new en-suite would be the most powerful available on the existing system, a 3 bar twin impeller pump was installed.

  • Good heat source: A large 1800 x 600mm Bisque Cobra-therm heated towel rail was installed to provide a good amount of heat, though as the room was a reasonable size, under floor tile warming was also installed, providing 150watts per square meter. On the client’s request, due to the drastic Scottish winters of late, a dimplex wall heater was also installed to provide additional background heat, if required.

The Conclusion

Our client was left with a spacious, modern and easily maintained en-suite shower room that will be functional and practical for many years to come, no matter what life throws their way.
